Woodwind Audition Information

Bassoon

Master of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts

A pianist is not required for solo works.

1. First movement of either Mozart, Weber or Hummel Concerto
2. Two additional solo works or movements of contrasting style, including at least one from the 20th or 21st C.
3. At least five standard orchestral audition excerpts from which selections will be made.

Clarinet

Prescreen Requirements:

Please upload a video recording of the following requirements (10 minutes total):

1. One solo of your choice
2. Orchestral excerpts:

o    Mendelssohn - Scherzo

o    Rimsky-Korsakov - Capriccio Espagnol

Live Audition Requirements

Master of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts

1. A first movement of a major concerto or similar work
2. Three-five standard orchestral audition excerpts of your choice
3. Other repertoire (which may include solos, etudes, or excerpts) of your choice, if needed, to fill out a program of 30 minutes for the MM and 60 minutes for the DMA. Selected portions will be heard

Flute

Prescreen Requirement: Please upload a video recording of the following requirements: 

1. Two contrasting pieces: one piece may be an etude, but the two pieces should be by different composers (so not two movements of the same work).
2. Two orchestral excerpts chosen from the following list:

o     Beethoven Leonore Overture No. 3 (mm. 328-360)

o    Bizet Carmen Suite No. 1 (Entr'acte mm. 1-23)

o    Brahms Symphony No. 4 (IV. mm. 93-105)

o    Debussy Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (mm. 1-4 & Reh. 2 to Reh 3)

o    Mendelssohn Midsummer Night's Dream (Scherzo: 1 mm. before Reh. P to the end)

o    Prokofiev Peter and the Wolf (Reh. 2 to Reh. 4) 

o    Ravel Daphnis and Chloe, Suite No. 2 (3 after Reh. 176 to 2 after Red. 179)
