l  By December 1, all graduate flute applicants seeking a Rochester or regional audition must upload a preliminary pre-screen video, which must include each of the items listed below.

 

l  Your pre-screen recording can be made either with or without piano accompaniment. 

 

 

ü  Mozart: Entire 1st and 2nd movement with cadenzas from D or G major concerto 

 

ü  J.S. Bach: Two movements from a sonata or partita of your choice

 

ü  A work of your choice 

 

 

l  The following 5 standard orchestral excerpts (not the entire work): 

 

 

ü  Beethoven: Leonore Overture #3 – mm. 328 through 360

 

ü  Brahms: Symphony IV;  Movement 4, mm. 89-103

DMA pre-screening requirements:  

 

 

l  A pre-screening video is required for all DMA applicants, and should include all of the items noted below except sight-reading.

 

 

 

MM & DMA live audition requirements:  

 

 

l  Prepared repertoire should include studies (such as Ferling or Bozza), contemporary solo literature (such as Berio or Dorati) and orchestral excerpts.

 

l  Possible sight-reading

 

 

 

 

 

 

Saxophone

 

2020 Rochester Audition Dates: February 7th, February 14th, and February 21st

 

 

Pre-screening Requirement:  

 

 

l  By December 1, all saxophone applicants seeking a live audition must upload a preliminary audition video recording. 

 

l  Please make a video recording of the items listed below.

 

l  If approved from pre-screening, the live audition should follow the same repertoire guidelines, and can present the same or different material.

 

 

 

 

MM auditions requirements:  

 

 

l  Prepared repertoire should include three complete works from standard and contemporary solo literature appropriate to training and experience.

 

 

 

 

DMA audition requirements:  

 

 

l  Prepared repertoire should include four complete works representing contrasting styles.

 

l  Applicants are encouraged to include one transcription of a work written before the 20th century, as well as a contemporary work requiring the extensive use of extended techniques.

 

l  Applicants in jazz studies and contemporary media should refer to the section on jazz for their requirements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Woodwind Specialist

 

 

MM auditions requirements:  

 

 

l  Entrance to this program requires two auditions, one on the primary instrument, and one on the second primary instrument. (Note that instruments in the same family do not meet the requirements for this major; e.g., flute and piccolo, oboe and English horn, etc.) 

 

l  Applicants should follow the audition guidelines in this section according to their primary and secondary instrument. 

 

l  Follow pre-screening guidelines (if required) for your primary instrument only; pre-screening is not required for the secondary instrument.
