Keyboard Audition Information

 

 

 

 

Piano (MM)

 

Preliminary submission (audio or video)

 

l  Good audio quality helps the faculty make an accurate assessment of your playing.

l  The faculty would prefer a recording which does not have compressed dynamics.

l  Try if possible, to set your recording levels manually.

l  Please set the automatic volume to the "off" position.

 

If you have not heard from us by January 4, 2019, please email us.

 

Preliminary submission and live audition

 

l  Prepare 45 minutes of memorized music to include three of the following four style periods:

 

ü  Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Impressionist/Contemporary

 

 

Suggested audition repertoire:

 

l  If possible, include a major work or Prelude and Fugue by Bach and an entire sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert

l  Three contrasting styles should be represented; solo works are required

l  The addition of an étude is optional

l  Scales and arpeggios will not be required

Any recent recording of a recital is acceptable, provided that it offers varied repertoire from several contrasting musical periods.

▶Once your graduate application has been received, your audition will be scheduled. Please note that there may be times in the

  season when scheduling is backlogged.

Live audition repertoire**

 

l  A major work by J.S. Bach

l  Two or more additional selections demonstrating contrasting styles and characters.

l  Sight reading, and harmonization skills will be evaluated.

 

Memorization of one or more works is encouraged.

**Approximately 30-45 minutes in duration.

* A practice session on the organ will be scheduled on the first day and your audition will be scheduled on the second day. You

Preliminary repertoire (video submission)

 

l  Submission should be a video of a memorized performance of the following repertoire:

ü  A major work by J.S. Bach and two additional contrasting works.

Live audition (45-60 minutes)

 

l  Candidates are required to perform a memorized program for the committee, including a major work by J.S. Bach.

l  Additional selections should demonstrate contrasting styles as well as both lyric and virtuoso playing.
