Keyboard Audition Information

 

 

Piano (MM)

 

l  Submit prescreening materials using the Shenandoah Conservatory online Audition Form no later than January 15, 2019.

Prescreening

 

l  One piece from each of the following:

 

ü  a Prelude and Fugue by Bach

ü  a movement from a classical sonata by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven or Schubert

ü  a piece from the Romantic era

ü  a work composed in the 20th or 21st centuries,

ü  an Etude by Chopin, Liszt or Rachmaninoff

 

 

l  NOTE: The prescreening video should not be longer than 30 minutes, and it must be from a steady camera showing the complete

            body. No piece may be edited.

 

l  Based on successful completion of the prescreening, the applicant will be invited to register for an on-campus audition.

On-Campus Audition

 

l  A 30-minute (minimum) recital, with formal program, to include stylistically and historically balanced content. The auditioning

committee will make a selection from the materials presented.

 

l  A demonstration of technique or sight-reading may be required at the option of the committee.

 

l  Memorization is required.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Collaborative Piano (MM)

 

 

l  Baccalaureate degree in music with a minimum GPA of 2.5

 

l  Curriculum Vitae/Résumé

 

l  Essay of 500-700 words addressing interest in the program and professional goals

 

l  Applicants must present an audition recital, with formal program, of not less than 30 minutes in length and including a solo performance of 10 to 15 minutes — memorization preferred.

 

l  The remainder of the recital should include chamber and art song repertoire. Complete chamber works (all movements) are required.

 

l  The applicant is responsible for obtaining support performers and is responsible for the overall quality of the performance.

 

l  A demonstration of sight-reading is required at all collaborative piano auditions.

 

 

 

 

Collaborative Piano (DMA)

 

 

l  A 30-minute recital, with formal program, to include stylistically and historically balanced content.

 

l  A piano solo of 10 to 15 minutes with memorization preferred.

 

l  The remainder of the recital includes both chamber and art song repertoire. Complete chamber works (all movements) are

   required.

 

l  Applicant is responsible for obtaining support performers and is responsible for the overall quality of the performance.

 

l  Sight-reading is included.

 

 

 

 

Organ (MM)

 

 

l  A 30-minute recital, with formal program, to includes music demonstrating familiarity with a variety of historical styles, including a major work by J. S. Bach. The audition committee may request selections from the program presented.

 

l  Memorization is not required.

 

l  A demonstration of technique or sight-reading may be required at the option of the committee.

 

 

 

 

 

Organ (DMA)

 

 

l  A 30-minute (minimum) recital, with formal program, to include music representative of these eras: Pre-Bach, J. S. Bach (larger-scale composition), 19th Century, and 20th/21st Century.

 

l  The audition committee may request selections from the program presented.

 

l  Memorization is not required.

 

l  A demonstration of technique or sight-reading may be required by the committee.
