Woodwind Audition Information
Woodwind (MM)
Prescreening Repertoire
l Woodwinds candidates will submit up to five URL links to
audio and/or video recordings.
l Applicants may be invited to campus for a live audition
recital based upon the quality of the recordings and supplementary application
materials.
l Recordings should be:
ü Approximately 30 minutes total
ü Representative of playing in several styles
ü Be recorded within the last year
ü Include 3 standard orchestral excerpts (oboe, clarinet,
and bassoon applicants only).
Special requirements for Flute (contact Prof. Tim Hagen w/ questions)
Audition Repertoire
l For the live audition, candidates should prepare to play
a short recital consisting of works representing the major historical periods.
l The program should consist of 40 minutes of music, from
which the audition committee will excerpt 20 minutes.
l Students should present a well-balanced program
consisting of music suitable for a senior undergraduate performance
recital.
l Accompanist preferred, but not required.
l Applicants must include at least one contemporary piece
which has been composed in the last 30 years.
Oboes,
clarinets, and bassoons
l Three orchestral excerpts of varying styles are required.
Saxophones
l Orchestral excerpts not required.
l Demonstration of interpretative jazz and improvisational
skills, while not a requirement, is certainly welcome.

Prescreen Repertoire
l Woodwinds candidates will submit up to five URL links to

ü Representative of playing in several styles

clarinet, and bassoon applicants only).

Audition Repertoire
l DMA candidates should prepare 40 minutes of music, from
which the committee will hear approximately 25 minutes.
l The audition will conclude with a short interview, for a
total of 30 minutes.
l An accompanist is required.
l Applicants are responsible for arranging their own
accompanists and rehearsals.
l A list of qualified local pianists will be provided.
l Students should be prepared to perform a well-balanced
program of works representing the major style periods for their instrument.
l Applicants must include at least one contemporary piece
which has been composed within the last 30 years.
